Mzuzu, Malawi

Mzuzu is a town and capital of Northern Region in Malawi. It has a population of about 250,000 people, making the third largest town in Malawi by population.

Mzuzu is majorly inhabited by the Tumbuka people. The largest minority ethnic group are the Chewa. Other minor ethnic groups include the Ngoni , Tonga, Nkhonde, Lambya, Yao, Lomwe, Sukwa, Sena, Mang’anja, Nyanja, and other ethnic groups with 2% of the population.

Mzuzu is found in Mzimba District in between Viphya Mountains. These mountains provide a conducive environment for agriculture-tea, coffe, and rubber are cultivated here.

Mzuzu is famous for hosting the largest man-made forest in Africa, at Vaphya Plantations.

Some of the popularly known locations in the city include Chibavi, Luwinga, Area 1B, Chibanja, Katoto, Zolozolo, Masasa and Mchenga-utuba.
